Nutshell Go — Android app
Version 1.0 · Effective 8 September 2026
The short version. Nutshell Go keeps your activities, profile and settings on your phone. There is no account, and your rides are never uploaded. We run no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising, and we do not build a profile of you or sell anything about you to anyone.
The app does download map and routing data from the internet, and one of those services is a third party that sees your phone's IP address. That is set out in full below.
Who this applies to
This policy covers the Nutshell Go Android application, distributed through Google Play. It does not cover any other Nutshell product or website.
Nutshell Go is published by an individual developer based in France. The developer's name and contact details are shown on the app's Google Play listing. You can also contact us using the address at the foot of this page.
Information stored on your device
When you use Nutshell Go, the following is written to a database on your phone:
- Recorded activities — position traces, speed, distance, elevation, gradient, and heart rate, power and cadence where a sensor supplies them
- Your profile — the figures you enter, such as weight and FTP
- Your settings — page layouts, chosen metrics, targets, units, and the sensors you have paired
- Any offline map and routing data you have downloaded
This information stays on the device. It is not transmitted to us or to anyone else, and there is no server holding a copy. Automatic backup to Google Drive is disabled for this app, so your activities are not copied there either.
Because there is no copy anywhere else, losing or wiping the phone, or uninstalling the app, deletes your activities permanently.
What we do not do
- No account, no sign-in, no email address collected
- No analytics, usage tracking or crash reporting
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers
- No sale or sharing of personal information
- No profiling and no automated decision-making
Connections the app makes
Nutshell Go contacts three hosts, and only these three. Nothing about your recorded activities is sent to any of them.

The third of these, Mapterhorn, is an independent service we do not operate. Like any web request, theirs receives your phone's IP address and the identity of the map squares you are looking at, which indicates approximately where you are. It receives nothing else — no identifier, no account, and none of your recorded data.
You can stop these requests entirely by turning off Hillshading in the app's settings. With hillshading off and your offline squares downloaded, the app makes no internet connections at all.
Location
Nutshell Go uses your device's location to record where you have been and to show your position on the map. Location is recorded only while an activity is running, and background location access exists so that a recording continues when your screen is off or you switch apps — a ride would otherwise stop recording in your pocket.
Recorded positions are written to the database on your phone and are never transmitted by the app.
Your phone determines its position using Google Play Services, as most Android apps do. What Google does with location on your device is governed by your device's own Google Location Accuracy and Location History settings, and by Google's privacy policy, not by this one.

When something leaves your phone
There is one way your data leaves the device, and you start it: saving an activity as a GPX route and then sharing it. Sharing hands the file to whichever app you choose, and what happens to it after that is governed by that app. Nutshell Go does not send it anywhere itself.
Keeping and deleting your information
Your activities remain on your phone until you delete them. You can delete an individual activity from the History screen, and deletion is immediate and permanent — there is no copy elsewhere to recover from. Uninstalling the app removes everything it has stored, including downloaded maps.
Because we hold nothing about you, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf and no retention period on our side.
Children
Nutshell Go is not directed at children. You must be 13 or older to use it, and the app is not designed or marketed for a younger audience. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Your rights
Under the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation you have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and portability over personal data held about you.
In practice, Nutshell Go holds no personal data about you on any system we control, so there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or erase. Your information is on your own device and in your own hands: you can view it, export it as GPX, or delete it, at any time and without asking us.
If you believe your data has been mishandled, you may complain to your national supervisory authority. In France this is the CNIL.
Beta software
Nutshell Go is in testing. If a future version collects or transmits anything not described here, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the change will be noted below.
Changes to this policy
Any change will be published on this page with a new version number and effective date. Material changes will also be signalled in the app.
